Our annual chapter conference will be held October 29th & 30th, 2009 at
the Kearney Holiday Inn, located just North of the I-80 interchange.
Check-in and registration is from 7:00 to 8:00 AM, October 29th, and the meeting will adjourn at
4:00 PM,October 30th. Contact the chapter secretary for further information at Rpaulson@neb.rr.com.
Jeffery A. Fecteau, Underwriters Laboratories Inc., will give us vital information regarding photovoltaic systems
and alternate energy sources. While the country is busy trying to go "Green", we already have the tools at hand to
utilize this technology. It will grow our businesses while there are many rebates and tax incentives available to
individuals and businesses for alternative energy development. An important tool of the industry: "The White Book" from U.L.,
will be examined and with Mr. Fecteau's guidance, we will be able to properly choose products to safely use in the electrical field.
Dave Sullivan, President of the Iowa Chapter IAEI, will review NEC 500 articles and how they apply to agricultural
installations that we encounter. He will discuss safe wiring methods for fuels that are used. Mr. Sullivan will bring
to our attention several hazardous materials and locations that we encounter and normally do not deem unsafe.
Marilyn Schmoll, with Cummins Power Generation, will present a program highlighting generators with emphasis on overload
protection, disconnecting means, and selective coordination. The 2008 NEC brings many new rules for these standby systems.
Fred Bender, President of Electrical Education Inc., has been teaching all over the Midwest and is going to help us with
conductor ampacities and how to adjust ampacities for ambient temperature, location and number of conductors in a conduit.
The proper termination of conductors using the manufacturers instructions, and complying with the National Electrical Code,
will demonstrate how to eliminate conductor failure due to excessive heat.
Ed Larsen, Schneider Electric/Square D, has valuable information on how to troubleshoot problems with AFCI installations.
As the field problems are taken back to the supplier and sent to the manufacturer, problem resolutions are developed to
aid the electrician and the industry as a whole.
Randy Anderson, Executive Director for the State Electrical Division, and his crew, have gathered a lot of pictures of
"How Not To Do It" from across the state. Using these photos and a lot of common sense, they will teach the correct
installation methods for the Safe Use of Electricity. There may be a bit of humour tossed in while we view some of the
inventive ways that are discovered in our State for unusual, (to say the least) ways to connect to the wily electron.
The Nebraska/Iowa Electrical Council will once again host the Electrical Products Trade Show, giving us "hands on"
experience and technical advice from the "people who know" with new products and information.
The registration fee includes lunch both days, the banquet Thursday night, and all meetings.
Membership renewal dues need to be sent to the International Office in Richardson, Texas,
when you receive notification from them.
Fees listed are for the meeting only, and do not include membership dues. Those who attend
all meeting sessions will receive the required credit for state license renewal.
There will be a $1000.00 scholarship offered for members that sign a new member. The scholarship will
be determined by a drawing at the Chapter Meeting and will be paid to the post secondary school upon
registration of student.

NOTE: National CEUs will be awarded, and the certificate
will provide documentation to renew state licenses.
